Gail’s Recommendations

Hate List by Jennifer Brown

Sixteen-year-old Valerie returns to school the year after her boyfriend commits a school shooting. Valerie, her school, and her family are unsure whether she is a villain or a hero.

Crash Into Me by Albert Borris

Four suicidal teenagers on a “celebrity suicide road trip,” visit the graves of famous people who have killed themselves as they travel across the country, with the intention of ending their lives in Death Valley, California. Fans of Jay Asher’s 13 Reasons Why might find this new novel a “hopeful alternative.” (Kirkus Reviews 6/01/09)

Your Recommendations

Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles,  Walker Books, 2008

This novel is a full blown, modern take on Romeo and Juliet. The well-developed characters capture and hold the reader’s attention. The most compelling aspect is the fact that the racial divides and school cliques can be breached to form an amazing bond. This book is appropriate for ages 14 and up in my opinion. This book has a broad general teen appeal and this book is at the top of the quality scale.
