Hello! My name is Dan Petit. I am the new Homework Assistant here at the library. I will be working very closely with Michael to create events and services for all of you. It is a very exciting time at KPL. Michael and I are full of energy and ideas. We are ready to make things happen! This isn’t something we want to do by ourselves. We want to hear from all of you! Yes, that’s right, all of you! I want to know what all of your interests are, what you use the library for, and what kinds of things you would like to see happen at KPL. Please feel free to send any questions, comments, and/or suggestions that you have about the library. I am currently working on a few programs that are scheduled for the fall (including a program to help students write and prepare college applications) and would like to know what needs and requests you have.
Michael and I are still getting acquainted with the library’s collection. Earlier today we checked out some of the books in the YA section on the first floor. For those of you into graphic novels–we have a TON of Manga books in our collection. In the afternoon, we discussed some of the details of our job with both our supervisor and a rep from our state office, PlusTime NH. After that, we participated in a live “webinar” that highlighted the key features of http://www.tutor.com, which is an awesome service that provides homework and essay help. The best thing of all is that it is absolutely FREE! You can use at the library, or from home by typing in the barcode from your library card. But enough about that for now– it is summertime!
I have a brief story to demonstrate how important your input is to us here at the KPL. A young man who volunteers here told Michael about his interest in Dungeon and Dragons. After talking for a while, the two thought that it would be cool if people could play D and D at KPL… And SHAZAAM!! We are holding our first “D and D Night” in the Kay Fox room on Thursday, August 13th from 4pm to 8pm. Interested? You can sign up at the Keene Public Library Calendar of Events at http://www.libraryinsight.com/calendar.asp?sm=&jx=eap&nMonth=8&nYear=2009&x=3 find August 13th and click on D&D day to sign up! Or you can log onto http://www.ci.keene.nh.us/library/ and click on “Calendar of Events” under the “Program and Events” link to sign up. This goes to show you how important it is to here what everyone has to say. Well, I’m signing off for now. This blogging thing is fun! We are on the second floor of the library, in the children’s room. Stop in and say hi! Our door is always open. No, really it’s open all day. So long!
