Read Beyond Reality. I can. Can you?

It has been a few days since my last post. I know. I’m sorry. Let me tell you I’ve got a dozy of an update for you all.

First off, Dan, me, and the rest of the Keene Public Library Youth Department just got some volunteers!!!  (It’s okay. You can clap). So, now in addition to doing our own work, we’ll have to find work for them. Not to worry, though, my fine feathered friends. (I’m talking to the ducks in the audience right now). This just means that we can do even more work for our community, and I mean you. Yes, I mean you, sitting at the computer reading this. You didn’t think I knew you were on a computer did you? Well HA!

Anyway, our weekly game night got a record-breaking 33 participants last week. Seems like the word is starting to spread that something pretty cool is happening at your local (if you’re in Keene) public library.

Speaking of game night, we’ve got some special events coming up. This week, regular game night will have a twist. We’ll be filming part of the event. We will have some release forms for you to bring to mommy and daddy to sign so you can be on TV. That’s right. You heard it here first. You’re going to be . . . a STAR! I can see it now, your name in lights all the way down Broadway. If you want, we’ll have a question of the day, so you’ll know what to say when you get on camera.

Sunday, October 18, is the start of Teen Read Week. The theme of the week is “Read Beyond Reality.” We be offering some book themed games and events. Our movie on Wednesday, October 22 will be Coraline.

Did you know that movie Coraline is based on the spooky novel by Neil Gaiman? The library also has a graphic novel based on Gaiman’s story that was adapted and illustrated by P. Craig Russell.

Keep an eye out for our flyer and some info in the news about our Back-to-Back Game Tournaments.   Super Smash Bros. Brawl is on Thursday, October 22 and Yu-Gi-Oh! is on Friday, October 23. It’s going to be an exciting time, and we’ll finally get to see who the real champs are.

The Anime Fan Club has mixed it up a bit. We are now meeting the first Monday of the month at 3 pm. There will be a movie and then craftaku. The first event will be Monday, Nov. 2 and it’s a Totoro Fest!

Finally, there will be three regular book discussion groups starting in November. One group is just for teen girls. The first book is Sweetgrass Basket. This group will meet on Monday, November 9. On Monday, November 16, the boys will discuss Naruto: The Tests of the Ninja. Then on Monday, November 23, 4th – 6th graders will discuss The Truth about Horses, Friends, and My Life as a Coward, one of the NH Great Stone Face nominees.

For more information on any of these programs, check our online calendar or call the library at 603-352-0157.
